Are you one of those people who struggles to decide what papers to keep, how to file them, and how long to keep them? This is a challenge for many people, especially when the various important documents are received both physically and electronically. Here are some tips from Mlle Range-tout, a professional organizer, to effectively manage and organize your paperwork:
Storing very important documents
To ensure that they are not lost or damaged, it is best to keep very important documents such as passports, birth, marriage and death certificates as well as wills in a safety deposit box, ideally one that is fire and water resistant.
Sorting paperwork into well-thought-out categories
Home or real estate related documents
Include in this category documents concerning mortgages, insurance, taxes as well as invoices for the various services you use.
Car related documents
Do you own more than one vehicle? Make sure to dedicate a folder to each of your cars, grouping together contracts, insurance documents as well as information related to maintenance.
Tax related documents
To easily find the information you need, it is best to classify documents both by year and by person, taking care to keep at least documents from the last six years in addition to those from the current year.
Finance related documents
Keep all important information related to your bank accounts, credit cards and various investments in this category.
Employment related documents
This is the folder where you can keep your resume, letters of recommendation, and other professional documents that you consider important.
