Fruit salad and sweet crisps

Want to use up some ugly fruit that's been hanging around in the back of the fridge? Change up the traditional fruit salad with this version that adds a touch of freshness with mint and offers an original accompaniment of sweet chips!

    • Ingredients

      Sweet chips:

      • 4 pita breads
      • 4 tbsp (60 ml) melted butter
      • 4 tbsp (60 ml) brown sugar

      Fruit salad:

      • 4 cups (1000 ml) fresh fruit (this is the perfect opportunity to use up your ugly fruit)
      • 1 cup (250 ml) apple juice
      • 1 cup (250 ml) orange juice
      • A few chopped fresh mint leaves
    • Preparation

      1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
      2. Brush the pitas with melted butter and brown sugar.
      3. Cut into 8 wedges each.
      4. Place pita wedges on a nonstick baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until chips are golden brown and crispy.
      5. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, mix all the fruit salad ingredients and set aside in the fridge.

    Notes and tips

    Sprinkle chips with 1 tbsp. (5 ml) turmeric before cooking.
